How much time do you need for that? Even multiple times a day I would still allot less than 15 minutes. |

26m for 11 players not including Marners next deal. That’s pretty tight still. |

At least it's money for players mostly. Canucks have $6m for Eriksson (will likely contribute 12-15 points) $3 million for Luongo cheating tax, $5 million for Sutter (scored 6 pts last year) , $1 million for Spooner buyout, 3.3 million for Sven, and Journeyman JT Miller at $5.25 Million
That's about $23.55Million for a bunch of crap - haven't even started talking about an NHL caliber line yet. That's a lot of crap in your cap. |

There's so many teams in "Cap Hell" that are never even mentioned. Benning is making such a mess.
700K for Spezzza is fantastic signing. None of this bullpoop 3-5 million for 3rd and 4th liners. |

Nah, if Leafs need anything or want to get rid of anything, Dubas will just bend Dorion and the Sens over again. Not much left there, maybe Chabot for a third rounder and a 75 Camero. Eugene won't be able to pay him anyway.

If I were GM, pretty much my entire strategy would be to call the Dorions, Chiarellis, Bennings, etc.. of the world every day and try to trade with them as much as possible. |

I agree that the Nux have signed some guys for way too much.
Don't know what JT Miller brings to the table. Jury out on him.
Agree that lots of 3rd/ 4th line role players getting paid too much... Benning shouldn't be allowed to make trades or sign players, just make draft picks... |

But the top 9 will be set in place so you basically just need a 4th line, backup goalie and dmen. Considering what Dubas has done the last 2 seasons to fill out the bottom 6, there's no reason to believe he'll spend more than 800k for each player on the 4th line and on a backup. So there'll be a decent amount of money left for dmen.
Barrie might take a huge chunk of it but there's probably enough to get Barrie, Muzzin and Dermott signed if the cap goes up a couple mil. |

No argument there. Lets see how these years play out & how far $40m in 4 F’s goes. Contracts do expire & trades do happen. Not every team uses 10 minimum contracts as plays with 21-22 rosters on purpose.
How much will it cost to resign Freddie Barrie Dermott & Muzzin? Ceci is gone no doubt. |

If they sign all those players one is guaranteed to be picked in the expansion draft.
In other words they don’t need all of them. |

Cap will be About $100 million in 2021-22 and that $40 million will be a bargain. Loui Eriksson will still be a voluntary $6 Million tax, ditto for the $3 million for Luongo recapture. On the other hand, you will be paying Pettersson maybe $12 Million by then, and Boeser maybe $9 or $10 You will have $30 million plus tied up in two players basically. You will still have Miller and Ferland on your books - close to another $10 million. Sven and Beagle another $6 big ones - Leafs don't have these
And trades happen and contracts expire as you correctly point out. Only problem is, Dubas has been working on getting rid of bad contracts while Benning is collecting them. And this might be news to you, but paying top dollar for a really good player is not so bad. What is bad, is paying a really lousy player like Eriksson $6 million or Bobby Ryan $7.25 Million over a long term deal and they sh!t the bed. |

Much as it would be nice to lock up Dermott early it's not a big deal either way. Did Kapanen and Johnsson end up with 5+ million per year deals because of a wait to sign them to this summer? Dermott just isn't going to be in a position to demand much and he knows it. Hasn't played a ton of games and with the time missed to start the season he's still not going to have a lot of games under his resume. At best he's playing his off side with Muzzin or Rielly or he's third pairing LD. Not going to get PP time ahead of Rielly or Barrie. It will get sorted into something reasonable next year.
The only thing that really matters right now is figuring out that Marner business. And sadly we'll have to sit and wait a while on that. |
